The fires in January 2025 are a powerful reminder of how quickly our community could be at risk. We must prioritize:

  • Improving and maintaining evacuation routes.
  • Mitigating wildfire risk
  • Preparing for emergencies and planning contingencies

While fire safety is top of mind, we also need to remain vigilant about earthquake preparedness, as well as crime prevention and effective public safety response. Keeping our residents safe is a core responsibility of city leadership. Please see more on this topic below.

Emergency Preparedness

Last year's fire reminded us all how quickly everything can change. Here's some more info about my commitment to keeping our community safe:

Ensure Evacuations Work When They Matter

Clear evacuation routes with visible signage, backup power for traffic signals during emergencies, and updated neighborhood evacuation plans that account for actual traffic patterns. We need to get this right so residents don't have to figure it out during a crisis.

Make Home Hardening Easier and More Affordable

I'll pursue state and federal grants to subsidize improvements and provide clear guidance on contractors and best practices. Combined with maintaining our parks and open spaces, these community-wide efforts can help demonstrate reduced risk to insurers and ease the insurance burden on families.
